F.a.q.

Q: Is the water cold?
A: Sometimes! But we have the right gear to keep you safe and warm. The temperature ranges from 0 degrees celcius in the winter to 20 degrees in the summer.

Q: Are there sharks?
A: Yep, but there has never been an attack in Nova Scotia.

Q: How do I book a lesson?
A: Call 880-7873(SURF)

Q: Can anyone do it?
A: Pretty much, unless you can't swim or have a medical condition.

Q: Do you teach just women?

A: No, we teach anyone and everyone, however, we do offer exclusive women-only sessions!

Q: Will I be instructed by a girl or a guy?
A: We have both female and male surf instructors, but all lessons are done by the women unless otherwise stated. For instance, if we're overbooked you could be offered a male instructor.

Q: If I snowboard or skateboard, will I find surfing easy?
A: Surfing involves other techniques such as paddling, timing, and a great deal of upper body strength, which is developed over time with lots of practice. When you start consistently riding the face of the wave, you may find that there are similarities in carving or turning, but don't expect to start doing this right away as the learning curve is steep!

Q: Will I be able to stand my first time?
A: It all depends on your physical fitness, balance, and confidence in the water. It varies from person to person so dont be discouraged if you dont stand on your first try!

Q: What is included in the three hour lesson?
A: A surfboard, a wetsuit, and instruction. Part one (30 Mins): Theory on land; Part 2 (15 mins): gearing up; Part 3 ( 1 Hour 45 Mins): water time; Part 4 (30 Mins): gearing down, gear maintenance, Q&A. This is subject to change based on the discretion of the instructor.

Q: How many lessons should I sign up for?
A: Our basic lesson is a thorough introduction to safe surfing, combining theory and practical skill. After taking our introductory course, private coaching sessions are available. These sessions are 1.5 hour, in-water coaching, and is a more hands on, one one one approach.

Q: What should I bring with me?
A: You should bring your bathing suit, a towel, waterproof sunscreen, drinking water, a snack, and a dry change of clothes. You may also want to bring a warmer change of clothes and a hat/toque.

Q: What if it is raining/snowing/windy?
A: Lessons are a go in all weather conditins unless deemed unsafe. If you are unsure about the weather, please call 880-SURF (7873) prior to your lesson and we will let you know. If lessons are canceled for any reason they will be rescheduled.
